Abstract
- According to a survey conducted by Ipsos Veracity Index with the assistance of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), engineers are the fourth most trusted profession in Great Britain, with 85% of people surveyed saying they trust engineers to tell the truth. This is the sixth year that engineers have been included in the index, and they achieved an impressive score of 89% in 2020. However, the survey also revealed a higher level of distrust among younger people, possibly due to lower awareness of the profession. The IET plans to raise awareness through campaigns and awards. The president of the IET emphasized the importance of engineers in leading responsible AI and climate change action, stating that engineers have a responsibility to ensure that AI systems are fair, transparent, and inclusive, and that they play a crucial role in developing sustainable solutions for climate change.
