Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Stirling focused on the reliability and suitability of strength assessments in frail and pre-frail older adults. The study aimed to evaluate the within-session reliability of various strength measures, including knee extension, hip abduction and adduction, and handgrip strength. The results showed that maximal isometric strength in frail and pre-frail older adults can be measured with good to high reliability within their first testing session. The researchers recommend two familiarization trials followed by two measurement trials to achieve the highest level of overall repeatability. The study provides valuable insights for effective evaluation of baseline ability and exercise prescription in older populations. [Extracted from the article]
