Abstract

A recent report from Ewha Womans University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, discusses a case of linear hypertrophic lichen planus (LP) in a pediatric patient. LP is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin and mucosa, and the hypertrophic type is characterized by thickened, purplish hyperkeratotic plaques and nodules. The 12-year-old girl in this case presented with warty papules and plaques in a zosteriform configuration along one flank. Treatment with oral doxycycline, a topical corticosteroid, and tacrolimus resulted in significant improvement of the skin lesions after 7 weeks. This case highlights the less common but more severe nature of LP in children, and the rarity of the unilateral, linear hypertrophic type. [Extracted from the article]
