Abstract
- The article explores the experiences of migrant communities in Australia when it comes to barbecuing in public settings. While barbecuing is a popular Australian pastime, it can also lead to feelings of othering and shame for migrants who bring food with strong smells or different cooking methods. The article highlights the diverse culinary practices of different migrant communities, such as Sri Lankan, Turkish-Armenian, Filipino, and Colombian, and how they incorporate their cultural traditions into barbecuing. The author concludes that the migrant barbecue is now met with curiosity and desire, reflecting a more inclusive and diverse Australian food culture. [Extracted from the article]
