Abstract

This article examines the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices on corporate profitability in public and private sector companies in Odisha, India. The study finds that private sector companies in Odisha have higher CSR expenditure compared to public sector companies, although the public sector companies are more consistent in their CSR expenditure. The article emphasizes the importance of CSR for sustainable development and suggests that the integration between corporate entities and society is crucial for societal well-being. The study also highlights the positive association between CSR practices in both sectors, but notes that there is no uniformity in CSR practices and their impact on profitability among companies in Odisha. The article concludes by recommending that both public and private sector companies should spend the specified amount on CSR activities and suggests imposing penalties for non-compliance.
