Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the University of Waikato in New Zealand explores the topic of human rights-based healthcare for individuals with intersex variations. The study aims to initiate dialogue across disciplines and quantify the surgical interventions carried out on the sexual and reproductive organs of minors in Aotearoa New Zealand over a five-year period. The researchers argue that in order to monitor any shift towards human rights-based healthcare, national healthcare data should more clearly identify diagnoses and interventions related to minors with variations in sex characteristics. This research contributes to the ongoing discussion surrounding the ethical considerations of medical interventions in the context of intersex variations. [Extracted from the article]
