Abstract
- New research conducted by the University of British Columbia focuses on the health status of ready-to-plant grapevine nursery material in Canada in relation to crown gall disease. The study found that the disease, which causes significant damage to vineyards in cold-climate viticulture areas, is present in planting material from all nurseries tested. The research also describes the first strain of Allorhizobium vitis, called OP-G1, isolated from galls in British Columbia. The study concludes that a minimum threshold of 5,000 bacterial cells is needed for symptom expression, indicating that the presence of bacteria alone is not enough to initiate symptom development.
