Abstract
- A recent study conducted by the University of Pavia in Italy compared the effects of mechanical and hydrological reinforcement provided by cultivated plants on shallow slope stability. The researchers found that both types of reinforcement play a significant role in reducing the probability of shallow landslides. The study focused on sowed fields and vineyards in a typical agroecosystem in northern Italian Apennines. The findings suggest that considering both hydrological and mechanical effects of vegetation can help in selecting the best land uses to minimize the occurrence of landslides.
