Abstract

A study conducted by researchers from Emory University School of Medicine examined the associations between maternal education, neighborhood deprivation, racial segregation, and gestational age at birth in the United States. The study analyzed data from 34 cohorts representing 10,304 participants who delivered a liveborn, singleton infant between 2000 and 2019. The findings revealed that maternal education was consistently associated with a shorter duration of pregnancy and increased odds of preterm birth, even after adjusting for neighborhood deprivation and racial segregation. The study also found that the associations varied by maternal race and ethnicity and United States Census region. [Extracted from the article]
