Abstract

A recent study conducted at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, examined the auditory function of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The researchers found that hearing impairment was significantly higher among COPD patients, particularly those with respiratory failure. The study also revealed a negative relationship between hearing impairment and oxygen levels, as well as a positive relationship with smoking. The findings suggest that hearing should be considered an important comorbidity in COPD patients. The study utilized pure tone audiometry and auditory brain stem response to assess auditory status.
