Abstract
- A recent study conducted by the Guangdong Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Guangzhou, China, has revealed new findings on the genetic diversity and interspecific transmission of circovirus in Rhizomys sinensis, a species of rodent. The study identified three different circoviruses in samples from 195 Rhizomys sinensis, including the bamboo rat circovirus, porcine circovirus 2 (PCV2), and a novel circovirus phylogenetically close to the dromedary stool-associated circular ssDNA virus. These findings expand our understanding of circovirus diversity in rodents and highlight the importance of continued surveillance of viruses in wildlife populations to prevent the spread of zoonotic pathogens.
