Abstract
- Brent Comber's body of work is inspired by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and is a continuation of its evergreen story. Comber began designing and building gardens influenced by Japanese philosophies and eventually started creating his own furnishings by carving benches from reclaimed timber. His creative process involves manifesting ideas or stories into three-dimensional pieces or installations. Comber primarily uses offcuts or pieces of wood that are not used in the usual manufacturing process, and he values the authenticity of unprocessed wood. His work is story-based and respectful to the materials employed, with a high environmental mandate. Comber's approach to environmental sustainability has always been a priority, and he repurposes wood waste and uses safe finishes. He has an upcoming project where he will be designing and producing furniture and sculpture from trees being removed to expand a rural resort. [Extracted from the article]
