Abstract

Jean Crosnier (1652-1709), a Frenchman possibly of Huguenot background, fled to the United Provinces of the Netherlands havng committed a crime in his home country. During his stay there, he published several literary works and the Mercure Burlesque, which was a monthly gazette focused on gossip and news of various nature written in verse often in a very frivolous way. The present article analyses thow Crosnier wrote about the city where he lived in and its multicultural and polireligious environment. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
