Abstract

X Inc. in Tangerang Regency is a company enganged in manufacturing and has a focus on producing vehicle accessories with the ABS plastic as the main material. X Inc. has 4 main warehouses, each of them contains work areas that have different functions and different machines. However, the existence of many work areas and a fairly dense production schedule means that the factory must operate in effective and efficient time management and at the lowest possible cost. So, one way to find out an effective and efficient and low cost production process is to conduct a review regarding the existing material handling at the factory. It is necessary to observe the material handling flow and calculate the distance and costs incurred by the factory for material handling. The methods that will be used are the FTC, ARC, ARD, AAD methods and then recalculate the distance and cost of redesigned material handling. Based on the results obtained from the redesign of the facility layout owned by X Inc., it was found that the redesign using the new method made the material flow distance closer by 16.37% and the required material handling costs were 10.75% cheaper than the former layout.
