Abstract

A recent study conducted by the University of Mississippi Medical Center explores the relationship between sickle cell anemia and sudden death. The researchers found that sickle cell disease patients have a higher risk of sudden death, but the underlying causes are not fully understood. The study also revealed that sickle cell disease patients have a significant prolongation of the heart rate-corrected QT interval, which may contribute to ventricular tachycardia. The findings suggest that there are distinct factors contributing to QT prolongation in sickle cell disease patients compared to the general African American population. [Extracted from the article]
