Abstract

A recent study conducted at Humanitas University focused on the role of the long pentraxin 3 (PTX3) in Staphylococcus aureus-dependent osteomyelitis (OM), a bone infection caused by the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. The researchers developed a mouse model of OM and found that genetic deficiency of PTX3 protected against infection and inflammation. This suggests that PTX3 may be a crucial player in the pathogenesis of OM and a potential therapeutic target for bone infections. The study was approved by the Italian Ministry of Health and supported by Fondazione Beppe and Nuccy Angiolini. [Extracted from the article]
