Abstract
- A study conducted by researchers from the Department of Pharmacy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, examined the use of perioperative daptomycin as a prophylactic treatment for vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) infection in liver transplant recipients (LTR) who were colonized with VRE. The study found that perioperative daptomycin reduced the rate of VRE infections within 14 days post-transplant, but not at 90 days. The researchers suggest that future studies should explore higher doses or longer durations of perioperative daptomycin to further reduce VRE infections beyond 14 days post-transplant.
