Abstract

A systematic review and meta-analysis conducted by researchers at Monash University in Australia investigated the association between social isolation, lack of social support, and loneliness with cardiovascular disease (CVD) incidence in Australia and New Zealand. The review included five papers from three Australian longitudinal datasets, which reported no association between social health and the incidence of CVD in fully adjusted models. However, the researchers noted that the review was inconclusive due to the limited number of studies and reliance on self-reported CVD. They recommended further studies using medical diagnosis of CVD and considering the potential influence of residential remoteness to better understand the relationship between social health and CVD incidence in the region.
