Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Georgetown University has developed a user-friendly simulation model called the Smoking and Vaping Model (SAVM) to examine the impact of nicotine vaping products (NVPs) on public health. The model compares two scenarios: one without NVPs and one with NVPs, projecting smoking rates and estimating the difference in smoking- and vaping-attributable deaths and life-years lost. The researchers applied the SAVM to the German adult population and found that NVP use resulted in a significant reduction in deaths and life-years lost. The SAVM model can be used by policymakers and stakeholders to analyze the potential health effects of NVP use and interventions. [Extracted from the article]
