Abstract

This article discusses a collection of studies on newly emerging aspectual expressions in West Germanic languages. The studies explore various aspectual forms in Germanic languages, including verbal and prepositional constructions, as well as lexical means of expression. The articles focus on standard and nonstandardized languages, providing insights into the sources of aspectual expressions, properties of early-stage aspectual markers, and new methods for analyzing aspectual constructions. The studies highlight the overlap between aspectuality, tense, and modality, and the additional pragmatic information conveyed by aspectual expressions. The authors use empirical data from corpora to support their analyses. Overall, the studies reveal the presence of aspectual functions in Germanic languages that have received little attention in previous research. [Extracted from the article]
