Abstract

A recent study conducted by the Indiana University School of Medicine aimed to understand the experiences of LGBTQ+ plastic surgeons in the US and Canada. The study found that LGBTQ+ surgeons face discrimination and mistreatment within the workplace, with high rates of microaggressions, self-censorship, and discrimination reported. Transgender and gender-diverse respondents were more likely to experience discrimination compared to cisgender respondents. The researchers concluded that plastic surgery should work towards eliminating mistreatment, educating its workforce, and addressing LGBTQ+ underrepresentation in the field.
