Abstract

New research conducted at the University of Adelaide in Australia focuses on the Gram-Negative Bacteria Shigella flexneri and its behavior during infection. The study found that the pathogen undergoes changes in nutrient availability and antimicrobial stress, adapting to different sites within the body. The research also revealed that the bacteria increases its surface decorations and alters fatty acid homeostasis, while depleting the host cell lipid pool. The findings suggest a possible link between human malnutrition and susceptibility to Shigella flexneri infection. [Extracted from the article]
