Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Guangzhou Medical University in China explored the effectiveness of high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy in treating acute hypoxemic respiratory failure. The study enrolled 42 patients in the general respiratory ward and found that patients who had successful HFNC treatment had better in-hospital survival rates compared to those with failed treatment. The study also examined the association between initial blood test results and HFNC outcomes, as well as the use of electrical impedance tomography (EIT) to monitor regional ventilation distributions in patients receiving HFNC therapy. The researchers concluded that HFNC may be a potential rescue therapy for respiratory failure patients and that EIT could be used to monitor patients receiving HFNC therapy.
