Abstract
- A recent study conducted at the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University in China explored the relationship between oral microbiota and gastric cancer (GC). The researchers used 2b-RAD sequencing for Microbiome (2b-RAD-M) to analyze the oral microbiota in GC patients. They found that there was a fungal imbalance in the saliva and tongue coating of GC patients, with an increase in Malassezia globosa (M. globosa) and a decrease in Saccharomyces cerevisiae (S. cerevisiae). The study suggests that changes in oral fungi may play a role in GC development and that M. globosa could potentially serve as a fungal biomarker for detecting GC. However, the study had a small sample size, so further research is needed to confirm these findings. [Extracted from the article]
