Abstract

Pakistan's EV policy is in need of significant refinement to foster local manufacturing and manage the import of foreign electric vehicles and their parts. The current policy appears to be more conducive to importing EVs rather than supporting local manufacturing. By evolving the policy to favor local manufacturers, Pakistan can stimulate economic growth, create jobs, and reduce the trade deficit. Recommendations include introducing incentives for local EV manufacturers, investing in EV infrastructure, collaborating with educational institutions, and gradually increasing tariffs on imported EVs. Embracing and accelerating this change is crucial for Pakistan's air quality and economic growth. [Extracted from the article]
