Abstract

The section presents the winners of Waste Age's 2005 Truck and Container Design Contest. The Best Overall Truck and Design award was received by Flag Container Services of Staten Island, New York. Like the company's other roll-offs, the winning truck body is white, and features an eagle head covering the hood surrounded by a rippling flag and stars. The hood design mimics a hard hat created after Sept. 11, 2001. Meanwhile, the Best Front Loader award was presented to Waste Pro of Longwood, Florida for its Mack/New way front loader. Gators, grouper, sharks and mermaids are the creatures that grace the sides of Waste Pro's trucks and containers. On the other hand, the Best Side Loader went to Public Works of Metro Nashville, Tennessee. The winning Mack/Heil truck is typical of the city's side loaders, which depict three houses lining a neighborhood street, an orange cart and the slogan, Help us keep Nashville clean! Next is the Best Rear Loader award which was granted to Stafford Solid Waste based in Warsaw, Indiana. The winning Kenworth/Loadmaster rear loader features a black body with blue and gray pinstripes on the cab which highlights the truck body's natural lines. On the other hand, the white container creates a contrast by displaying the company's red, blue and gold logo.
