Abstract
- Geoff Notkin, a meteorite specialist and former punk rock musician, discusses his passion for space and meteorites in an interview. He recounts his early interest in science and astronomy, as well as his first experiences finding meteorites in the desert. Notkin also talks about his partnership with Steve Arnold and their popular TV show, Meteorite Men, which has helped bring meteorite collecting to a wider audience. He emphasizes the scientific value of meteorites and the importance of making them accessible to collectors, universities, and the public. Notkin mentions the rarity and significance of certain meteorites, such as the CR2 carbonaceous chondrite known as NWA 10256, which provides valuable insights into the early Solar System. He expresses a desire to continue adding to the body of knowledge about meteorites and mentions places he would like to explore in the future, such as Antarctica and Cape York, Greenland. However, he acknowledges the legal and logistical challenges involved in accessing these locations. [Extracted from the article]
