Abstract
- This article, published in the Chemistry of Natural Compounds journal, discusses the chemical composition and antioxidant activity of the essential oil from Cosmos sulphureus, also known as yellow cosmos. The plant is traditionally used in folk medicine to treat various ailments and has been found to have pesticidal, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antimalarial, and hepatoprotective activities. The essential oil was obtained through hydrodistillation and analyzed using GC-MS. A total of 37 compounds were identified, with the major components being spathulenol, pinocarvone, and undecan-2-one. The essential oil exhibited moderate antioxidant activity. The study was supported by grants from Chongqing Normal University and the National College Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program. [Extracted from the article]
