Abstract
- A study conducted by researchers at Jishou University in China explored the relationship between gut microbiota, gut microbiota-derived metabolites, and cerebrovascular diseases (CVDs). Using a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study, the researchers found evidence of a causal relationship between certain gut bacteria and an increased risk of ischemic stroke (IS), intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). Conversely, they also identified gut bacteria associated with a reduced risk of these conditions. The study suggests that understanding the role of gut microbiota and metabolites could lead to new biomarkers and targeted prevention and treatment strategies for CVDs. [Extracted from the article]
