Abstract

A recent study conducted by the Pediatrics and Rare Diseases Group has found that acidified drinking water can improve motor function, prevent tremors, and alter the disease trajectory in mice with Cln2 R207X, a model of late infantile Batten disease. Batten disease is a group of pediatric neurodegenerative disorders caused by mutations in the CLN1-14 genes. The study suggests that gut bacteria may play a role in the beneficial effects of acidified drinking water. This research highlights the potential of environmental factors, such as drinking water, to impact disease progression in rodent models. [Extracted from the article]
