Abstract

A recent report from Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) discusses the importance of primary care screening and prevention for dental caries and periodontal disease in adults. The study reviewed evidence from various sources, including clinical trials and observational studies, to assess the effectiveness of screening instruments and preventive interventions. The findings suggest that screening questionnaires have moderate diagnostic accuracy for periodontal disease, but more research is needed to determine the benefits and harms of oral health primary care screening and preventive interventions. The study did not evaluate primary care-administered preventive interventions. [Extracted from the article]
