Abstract

A recent report from Mount Sinai Hospital discusses the use of vascular imaging in the diagnosis, management, and monitoring of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), a vascular disease that can cause blindness in preterm infants. The report summarizes the current literature on vascular imaging and ROP, highlighting findings such as increased peak systolic velocity in the retinal and ophthalmic arteries, increased vascular tortuosity, smaller foveal avascular zone, and altered vessel density in ROP patients compared to healthy controls. However, the available studies are inconclusive and lack robust longitudinal data. The researchers suggest that vascular imaging, along with retinal examination, could be a valuable tool in ROP diagnosis and management. [Extracted from the article]
