Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute in Quebec, Canada, has focused on white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) and their association with cerebrovascular dysfunction and Alzheimer's disease. The researchers used multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to assess the severity of WMHs and their impact on various clinical outcomes. The study found that the qT2 signal, a measure of tissue microstructure, was particularly sensitive to WMH-specific tissue deterioration. The findings suggest that combining volumetric and signal measures of WMHs could improve prognosis and treatment outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
