Abstract

Researchers from the School of Marine Science and Technology in Weihai, China have developed a multiplex polymerase chain reaction (MPCR) assay for the detection of harmful microalgae in marine aquaculture environments. The assay was designed to detect five representative harmful microalgae species commonly found along the Chinese coast. The MPCR assay demonstrated strong specificity, good stability, and the ability to detect target algae at low concentrations. This new method could serve as an alternative to traditional morphology-based methods for monitoring harmful microalgae in aquaculture environments. [Extracted from the article]
