Abstract

Machining of complex closed contour geometries on CNC machines is not only difficult but is associated with lower quality of components and hampers productivity also. The larger size of data that is required to be transmitted affect feed rates and leads the cutting tool to deviate from the stipulated toolpath. Feed rate fluctuation and bottleneck due to huge data transmission cause the deviation of the cutting tool from the toolpath. In this present paper, the effects of such important factors on shape accuracy and surface roughness are to be reviewed. The closed contour toolpath is generated by the Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software. The modern CAM software supports machining of free-form curves, approximated with a series of short linear segments and circular arcs. The algorithm is essential to avoid the errors when the parts actually machined. Considering this, the reviewed literature is broadly classified as toolpath for machining of the free-form curve and interpolation algorithm. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
