Abstract

A recent research study conducted in Philadelphia has provided new insights into congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), a condition where abdominal contents enter the thoracic cavity, affecting both cardiac and pulmonary development. The study found that maldevelopment of the pulmonary vasculature leads to bilateral pulmonary hypoplasia and pulmonary hypertension, contributing to the high mortality rate of CDH. The researchers emphasize the importance of understanding the different clinical phenotypes of CDH and developing individualized therapies to improve outcomes. Further research into addressing the cardiopulmonary interactions in CDH patients may lead to better morbidity and mortality outcomes. [Extracted from the article]
