Abstract
- A recent study conducted in an endemic area in Northeast Brazil examined the trend of pediatric leprosy cases from 2008 to 2018. The study found that there was a high incidence of paucibacillary leprosy in children and adolescents, indicating active transmission in the community and failures in detecting new multibacillary cases among adults. Most cases occurred in urban areas, and children between the ages of 10 and 14 were found to be more vulnerable to Mycobacterium leprae infection. The study highlights the importance of monitoring leprosy cases in children as an indicator of the disease's prevalence in the general population. [Extracted from the article]
