Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has provided new insights into the mechanism of Y-Secretase (GS), an enzyme involved in the development of Alzheimer's disease. The researchers used pH replica exchange molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the protonation states of the catalytic dyad of GS. They found that the presence of the substrate at the active site influenced the protonation state of the catalytic dyad, shedding light on the cleavage mechanism of GS. The study contributes to our understanding of the generation of amyloid-fi peptides and the development of Alzheimer's disease. [Extracted from the article]
