Abstract
- A recent research report from the National Defence University in Islamabad, Pakistan, explores the impact of tariff and non-tariff barriers on Pakistan's key exports to China. The study focuses on the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA) signed in 2006, which aimed to enhance trade cooperation between the two countries. The analysis reveals that China imposed relatively high tariff rates on Pakistan's top five exports compared to its other free trade agreement partners. Additionally, the study highlights the significant coverage of non-tariff barriers, such as Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) and technical barriers to trade (TBT), on exports related to cereals, edible fruits, and textiles. These findings have implications for the future of trade ties between China and Pakistan. [Extracted from the article]
