Abstract

A study conducted by researchers at Charles Sturt University and Federation University in Australia explores the phenomenon of women advising other women to cut off more hair in hair salons. The researchers found that women who were more intrasexually competitive were more likely to recommend cutting off more hair, especially when the hair was in good condition and the client wanted as little as possible cut off. The study also observed that women of average attractiveness were the primary targets of competition, while highly attractive women were least targeted. The research suggests that recommending excessive haircuts could potentially diminish a client's physical attractiveness and hinder their ability to convey sexual intent.
