Abstract

Jordan Stolz, an 18-year-old speed skater, won three gold medals at the 2023 World Speed Skating Championships. In an interview, Stolz reveals that his favorite event is the 1000-meter race because he excels at holding his speed in the second lap. He was inspired to start speed skating after watching Apolo Ohno race in the Winter Olympics when he was five years old. Stolz credits his sense of balance, improved through the use of a slide board, as an important tool for learning speed skating. He reaches speeds of about 38 miles per hour while racing and aims to win gold medals at the Olympic Winter Games and break world records. Stolz trains 17-20 hours a week, focusing on cycling to strengthen the muscles used in skating. [Extracted from the article]
