Abstract

A preprint abstract from osf.io discusses the limited evidence on the factors influencing bystander action to address violence against women in low- and middle-income settings, specifically in university contexts. The study analyzed panel data from 726 male university students in Hanoi over the course of one year. The results showed that bystander self-efficacy and intent to intervene were associated with greater bystander action. Additionally, awareness of the effects of alcohol on sexual consent was found to impact bystander action. The study suggests that improving student confidence and commitment to bystander action, as well as raising awareness about alcohol and consent, are important for preventing campus sexual violence. However, the study cautions against relying solely on cross-sectional analyses of bystander action drivers due to potential selection bias. [Extracted from the article]
