Abstract

A recent report from Lovely Professional University in Punjab, India discusses the use of PBAT (polybutylene adipate co-terephthalate) as a bioplastic for flexible packaging films. The researchers found that while PBAT films have high flexibility, they have relatively low strength compared to other bioplastics. However, the strength can be improved by blending PBAT with other fillers/polymers and incorporating bioactive functional fillers. The review highlights the physical and functional properties of PBAT films and their potential as a biodegradable alternative to non-degradable plastics in food packaging applications. The researchers hope that this review will encourage further research on PBAT-based biodegradable active food packaging. [Extracted from the article]
