Abstract
- A recent study conducted by the University of Andres Bello in Santiago, Chile, explored the association between atopic dermatitis (AD) and periodontitis. The study examined the levels of interleukins (IL)-13, IL-31, and thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of 29 subjects with moderate-to-severe AD and 33 controls. The results showed that the GCF levels of IL-31 and TSLP were higher in AD subjects compared to controls, while there were no significant differences in the GCF levels of IL-13. The study suggests that AD and periodontitis independently influence the GCF levels of IL-31 in opposing ways, while AD alone influences the levels of TSLP. Further research is needed to understand the mechanisms underlying these associations. [Extracted from the article]
