Abstract
- This document, titled "Role of Hormones in Substance Use Disorders," provides an overview of several primary-literature papers that explore the impact of hormones on addictive behavior. The papers cover a range of topics, including the effects of estradiol on fentanyl addiction, the role of oxytocin in heroin seeking, the influence of the estrous cycle on cocaine's actions, the involvement of estrogen receptors in cocaine-induced responses, the relationship between the medial preoptic area and the ventral tegmental area in reward pathways, and the genetic factors contributing to sex differences in cocaine-induced activity. The findings suggest that hormones, particularly estradiol, play a significant role in addiction, and further research is needed to understand the underlying mechanisms. [Extracted from the article]
