Abstract

The article discusses the establishment of the Kiribati Medical Assistance Team (KIRIMAT) in Kiribati, a small island nation in the Pacific. Kiribati is vulnerable to climate change and rising sea levels, and its health services face challenges in responding to emergencies due to transport limitations and human resource constraints. KIRIMAT was launched in 2022 to serve as a deployable clinical capacity for health emergency response, with a focus on reaching remote outer islands. The team underwent training and has a cache of equipment and supplies to support their deployments. This initiative strengthens Kiribati's ability to respond to emergencies and improves coordination with international emergency medical teams. [Extracted from the article]
