Abstract

This article offers a brief analysis of the architectural features of the building Kefeli Mescidi in Istanbul and supports its identification as a Byzantine monastic dining hall. The analysis of Late Byzantine written sources in connection to the topographical and material data of the building supports the association with the famous Constantinopolitan monastery of St John of Petra and its refectory.
