Abstract

Discharge conveyor structure is an equipment in the mining industry that supports the process of moving excavated materials such as coal. Discharge conveyor structure is made of carbon steel which is subject to corrosion. The disadvantage of corrosion is that it results in a reduction in the thickness of discharge conveyor structure. Therefore, it is necessary to control and monitor corrosion on the discharge conveyor structure to be observed. The purpose of this study was to determine the type of corrosion, corrosion control methods, and thickness reduction. The methodology used in this study is measuring the thickness reduction of discharge conveyor structure. This research was conducted on a 71-meter-long conveyor structure above ground level. Measurement of the thickness using the Ultrasonic Thickness Gauge TT 130 at 15 observation points. The thickness reduction of discharge conveyor structure that occurs almost evenly at all test points of 0.79-1.58 mm. The type of corrosion that occurs in the discharge conveyor structure is uniform corrosion. In controlling this corrosion using a three-layer coating method with a Sea guard 5000 as primer coating, Sher glass FF as intermediate coating, and aliphatic acrylic modified polyurethane as a top coating.
