Abstract

The digitally-enabled sharing economy at the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) is rapidly growing in both scale and scope. Digital labor platforms stimulate the sharing economy across a varied range of sectors such as accommodation, and transportation. In such a context, social entrepreneurs and socially-oriented organizations have been developing inclusive innovation solutions to tackle local social issues. The study intends to examine how digital social innovation (DSI) platforms of sharing economy expand opportunities for marginalized groups at the BoP to improve the agency and well-being of individuals and promote collective action. By applying a critical interpretative lens, the study investigates the impact of a digital platform connecting influencers in slums and indigenous communities in Brazil to foster social value and empowerment of these marginalized communities. In sum, inclusive innovation projects are changing the dynamics of power, providing mechanisms of participation, and learning in the digital society. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
