Abstract

Although the high conductivity of MXenes can substantially contribute to excellent electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding through electromagnetic wave reflection, their derived aerogels still exhibit poor mechanical properties (about 10–15 kPa). To address this tough issue, we present a feasible freeze-drying approach to prepare a three-phase composite aerogel interconnecting MXene, Ag nanowire (AgNW), and carbon nanotube (CNT) compositions via a hydrogen bond and van der Waals force. The strong interfacial interaction in the three-phase structures produced an abundant rigid skeleton and a "cell wall" structure, yielding a high conductivity of 333.65 S/m with an excellent EMI SE of 57.5 dB and a much enhanced compressive strength (23.62 kPa), which is 10–20% higher than the current typical high-performance MXene aerogel. The three-phase MXene/AgNWs/CNTs aerogel provides us with a promising application scenario emphasizing excellent compressive strength, resilience, and electromagnetic shielding performance that can meet the increasingly strict requirements for high-strength electromagnetic shielding materials.
